Identity Theft

Each year 10 million Americans fall victim to identity theft, at a cost of 5 billion dollars. Identity theft actually encompasses several types of fraud, including credit card fraud, Internet fraud, and mail theft.

Even though only 4 percent of identity fraud is through stolen mail to gain personal information, the U.S. Postal Inspectors are tasked are leaders in the fight against identity theft.
