Federal Statutes with Whistleblower Rights and

Protection

There are many federal statutes that provide whistleblowers with protections and rights. Although they do not provide for rewards for blowing the whistle on misconduct, they do provide strong legal protection to those willing to step forward. The links on this page are the most common federal whistleblower protections and whistleblower rights.  They include reporting discrimination and retaliation by employers in the workplace based on age, race, religion, or sex. It also includes reporting pollution, environmental and job safety matters, waste by the government or government contractors. You likely have heard of some of these, such as EEOC, OSHA, or Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)

State Whistleblower Rights and Protections

In addition to federal protections, there are many state whistleblower protections and rights. Click here to see a general listing of them.

Combining the federal and state laws creates powerful whistleblower protections and whistleblower rights. These are in addition to the Department of Justice and IRS whistleblower reward programs,  discussed at other portions of this website.

Reporting Other Fraud

Don't forget to review the other portion of this website that shows you how to report other types of fraud, such as identity theft, credit card fraud, immigration fraud, or business fraud. See the link on the far left named, "Reporting Other Fraud."

Disclaimer: The discussion of federal and state whistleblower rights and protections on this page are for information only. It does not provide legal advice, nor does it warrant that the descriptions or lists are complete or accurate. In addition, changes to regulations occur frequently. You should contact an attorney with experience in the area of law you are interested. The authors of this website do not represent clients under these general whistleblower provisions, but rather limit their legal practice to representing whistleblowers claiming rewards under the federal and state False Claims Acts and the IRS Whistleblower Reward Program as discussed in other parts of this website.  We regret that we cannot respond to questions regarding the whistleblower protections listed on this page.
